Presented in a black satin lined gift box, this valuable gift is the perfect symbol of Australiana. The note designed by Brian Sadgrove has been in circulation since 1995 and features the images of indigenous Australian David Unaipon on the front with Australia’s first female politician Edith Cowan on the obverse.
David Unaipon (28 September 1872 – 7 February 1967) (born David Ngunaitponi) was an Australian of the Ngarrindjeri people, a preacher, inventor and writer who broke stereotypes of Aboriginals. He was also known as the Australian Leonardo da Vinci for his mechanical ideas.
Edith Dircksey Cowan (2 August 1861 – 9 June 1932) was an Australian politician, social campaigner and the first woman elected to an Australian parliament. Cowan’s portrait was featured on an Australian postage stamp in 1975. In 1984 the federal Division of Cowan was named after her.
